  • Business Visa (Single Entry): This visa is designated for individuals traveling to Tanzania for business purposes, permitting a stay of up to 90 days.
  • Multiple Entry Visa: This visa category is designated for American nationals for tourism and other purposes, allowing frequent visits for a duration of up to 12 months.
  • Transit Visa: This visa is designated for individuals transiting through Tanzania on route to another country, valid for a duration of up to 7 days.
  • Gratis Visa: for holders of diplomatic, service, or official passports and their dependents, as well as for ordinary passport holders as mandated by immigration officials.
  • Additional Visas: for volunteers, students, researchers, and others as designated by immigration officials.

The necessary requirements for a Tanzanian visa may differ based on your nationality and the specific type of visa sought. Nonetheless, typically, you may require:

A valid passport: Your passport must be valid for a minimum of six months after your intended departure date from Tanzania.
A finalized visa application form: The visa application form is available on the website of the Tanzanian embassy or consulate, or via the e-visa portal of the Tanzanian Immigration Department.

A passport-sized photograph: A current passport-sized photo of yourself is required.

Applicable visa charge contingent upon the visa category. Required documentation: Additional papers may be required, including a letter of invitation, a return ticket, and evidence of adequate financial resources.

How to Apply for a Tanzanian Visa

One may obtain a Tanzanian visa at a Tanzanian embassy or consulate in their native country or through an online application. The online visa application procedure is accessible via the Tanzanian Immigration Department’s e-visa webpage. The following are the procedures for applying for a Tanzanian visa online:

  • Access the Immigration Services Website (www.immigration.go.tz)
  • Select the “e-services” button;
  • Choose and click on the “e-Visa Application Form.”
  • Upload and attach the applicant’s pertinent scanned documents for the Visa.
  • The applicant will subsequently receive an email including a User Identification Number, which may be utilized to monitor the application online.
  • Upon completing the online visa application form, the applicant must remit the corresponding visa fee;
    Following successful payment, the applicant will submit their application;
  • Finally, the applicant will receive a confirmation message indicating that their application has been received.
  • The majority of applicants will obtain their online visa via email within six business days following the submission of the form. Travelers are required to print a copy of the eVisa. This document must be presented to an officer at Tanzanian border control for entry into the country.

Visa Fees and Duration of Validity

The visa fees for Tanzania fluctuate based on the visa category and the applicant’s nationality. Tanzanian visas typically permit a validity of up to 90 days for single-entry and up to 12 months for multiple-entry visas. Business visas are valid for a maximum duration of three months.

Important Note

All visitors intending to engage in tourism must apply for a standard visa. Except for American nationals (USA passport holders) who must apply for a multiple visa;

Applicants intending to visit both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar are recommended to indicate their primary destination when completing the form.

The nearest Embassy is considered the closest location for the applicant when applying for a Visa, and if necessary, the applicant may be summoned to attend an interview in person at that Embassy.

Each passport holder must submit an individual visa application. In this instance, minors completing their parents’ Visa applications must submit their own distinct Visa applications.

Once a Visa application is submitted, no modifications may be made to the application. Should there be any discrepancies in the information on the issued visa or alterations to the flight schedule that impact the arrival or departure date, the applicant will notify the appropriate immigration authorities for clarification or assistance.

A business visa does not replace a residence permit. Consequently, it cannot be extended or renewed while the bearer remains in the nation.

A Multiple Visa is not intended to serve as a Residence Permit. The holder may remain for a maximum of three months per visit. This does not imply that a holder should remain for three months, depart temporarily, then return for an additional three months.

A Transit Visa is exclusively for applicants intending to traverse the United Republic of Tanzania en route to other nations and must be accompanied by an onward ticket and visa (if applicable) for the destination country. A brief tourism visit to Tanzania does not necessitate the applicant to get a Transit Visa.

All applicants (travelers) are REQUIRED to present their return ticket upon arrival.
